The ideal device for anyone too lazy to learn a new language TL;DR: This handheld translator will make all your future trips overseas way less stressful, and you can save $30 while it's on sale in the Mashable Shop. The CM Translator, in particular, is like a traveler's dream. It's a tiny black remote, about the size of your Apple TV remote, with a single button that magically translates your speech into other languages. It's not really magic, though, unless you consider artificial intelligence, Microsoft, and OrionStar to have supernatural powers. Oil behemoth Exxon starts trial for alleged climate fraud Exxon is in hot water. The State of New York sued the Exxon Mobil Corporation for fraud, and the oil giant could not squirm out of what will almost certainly become a historic trial. New York alleges that Exxon deceived its investors about how much looming climate change regulations will likely hurt the oil giant's profits as the planet continues to relentlessly warm. The oil company goes to trial on Tuesday at the neoclassically-designed New York State Supreme Court in the dead center of Manhattan's Financial District — a place where fraud, greed, and deception have, historically, abounded. "We’re seeing the company for the first time confronted in open courts with the evidence of its climate deception," said Carroll Muffett, the president of the Center for International Environmental Law. The true story behind the mysterious prisoner in 'Catherine the Great' is incredibly tragic Catherine the Great on HBO is catnip for anyone who loves the high stakes, opulence, and semi-Googleable accuracy of a good royal period drama. The first episode of the four-part miniseries, which aired Monday night, deals with the first few years of Catherine The Great's (also known as Catherine II) reign, and while many historical dramas bend the truth in favor of crafting a good story, the violent main event of the premiere episode is pulled straight from the history books.  The episode opens with Helen Mirren's stately Catherine the Great visiting a prisoner of unknown origins at Shlisselburg and ends with that prisoner's violent death during an ambitious guard's attempt to free him. The show drops a few bits of exposition about the prisoner, including that he's a threat to Catherine's throne, but it doesn't fully expand on why and how this young man wound up jailed.  Read more...More about Helen Mirren, Catherine The Great, Entertainment, and Movies Tv Shows https://mashable.com/article/catherine-the-great-hbo-ivan-vi-prisoner/

Paul Rudd is so tired he falls asleep in the middle of a James Corden sketch Sometimes you don't need five minutes of choreography and well-timed jokes to entertain a crowd. Sometimes you just need footage of Paul Rudd attempting to nap. At least that's James Corden's philosophy in the sketch above, after his attempted script run-through with Rudd derails due the latter's promo tour-induced exhaustion. "Listen to me," says Corden. "I've never done this before — shall we just cancel the sketch? You seem so tired, honestly. We can use the time that we were going to film it, you can take a nap, get a bit refreshed, and get ready to do the actual show." Rudd is more than keen, but there's a catch — they still need to film his attempts to get to sleep in order to film the time slot. Looks like Elon Musk just tweeted using the Starlink internet It appears that Elon Musk has sent his first tweet using the Starlink internet. SpaceX launched the first part of its ambitious satellite internet network in May 2019, deploying 60 of its Starlink satellites from its Falcon 9 rocket, which launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. SpaceX founder and CEO Musk posted to Twitter on Tuesday seemingly using the Starlink network. Whoa, it worked!! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 22, 2019 Mashable has reached out to SpaceX to verify whether the tweet was indeed sent using the Starlink system (or whether Musk is pulling our leg). The Starlink telecommunications project aims to have the ability to deliver high-speed internet to the entire planet. The satellites were successfully deployed in May at an altitude of 440 km above Earth, before using onboard propulsion to reach 550 km. Musk at the time described it as SpaceX's heaviest ever payload, weighing in at 18.5 tons.
