KingsChat: KingsChat Conversations Ep. 4 Should on KingsChat Web

KingsChat Conversations Ep. 4 Should employees get fired (lose their jobs) for what they post on social media? Advocates for web-based media responsibility contend that what a person posts on social media bears witness concerning who they are in person. Opponents of this school of thought contend that posts via web-based media should be protected by freedom of speech. Share your thoughts in the comment section. #KingsChatConversations

If one expresses his/her opinion on an issue in his/her private capacity as an individual on social media and not in his/her capacity as an employee speaking in the name of the name of the organization, he/she should not be liable to sanctions by the organization for his private life. However, it depends on the terms of contract and the ethical standards of the organization. If there is an existing code of ethics in the organization that specifically prohibits speaking in such manner on such issues in particular; or in relation to certain conducts on social media, then, the organization may have legal grounds for taking such actions in relations to violation of the organization's ethics.

If an employee holds a position with an employer who has ethics and holds its employees to those standards as a condition for employment, they should be fired if they portray any image which can portray the employer in a negative view.

The Biblical Samson was born with potential and promise. His parents had been unable to have children and so they prayed that God would grant them this miracle. God obliged their request, but wanted something out of the deal. Samson was to become a 'Judge' (de facto ruler) of Israel at a time they were enslaved (or colonized) by the Philistines. He would be gifted with superhuman strength with which to wage wars and a physique that could inspire followership from the rest of Israel. However, Samson grew up to choose his own way. Do note that this is not to judge Samson but to draw parallels from his story so we can learn to escape the banana peel of youth. Samson used his abilities for his own personal gain alone and because he was led by his personal pursuits, he fell at the hand of Delilah. Do not see Delilah as a person but as a system - the World's system. I do not know why Samson had a thing for Philistine women, but I'll hazard a guess. They were probably seen as exotic and liberal back then, as they were not bound to the set of rules that the Israelite women were. When Samson wanted a Philistine woman, his father urged him to choose from among the Israelite women (with whom they shared common values) but he insisted on his own way. Alas! She was used as a lure to eliminate him from God's longterm plans for his country. The Philistines acknowledged Samson's power and they stopped at nothing to neutralize his influence. In case you haven't caught it yet, you are Samson. We are Samson. Now look at the attached picture again and look at that fine specimen of a man about to meet an untimely end- full of life, vigour and potential that would never be actualised. That is you - young, mentally agile, in your prime - ready to take on the world. First, they sought the secret to his difference. They didn't get the secret from a babalawo. They got it from his own mouth. He told it to them. That is what happens when popular culture pushes you to post on social media without thinking and they call it freedom. Of course, the freedom to surrender your freedom... is the most popular freedom. ~ Excerpt from an article written by John Obidi for Headstart Africa on Facebook

I think that the answer to this question is related to the fact that if the opinion of a certain person on a certain controversial issue can be associated with the opinion of the organization, we must refrain from commenting, so as not to cast the public opinion.
