"Mike wake up!" "Let me go! Let me go!" Mike was saying as he tossed and kicked violently on his bed. "Mike! Mike! Wake up!" Mike suddenly sat up and unknowingly shoved his brother who was shaking him. "Mike! Wake up!" Mike finally opened his eyes. Panting very heavily. "Mike! Breathe. You're okay. It was just a dream." Derek enveloped his twin brother in a hug. "Was it the same dream?" Derek asked Mike nodded. "Hmmm. I think it's time to tell mum and dad. This is the third time now." Derek said. No answer. "Mike?" Mike was breathing heavenly. He had fallen back asleep. The next morning at breakfast, Derek kept motioning for Michael to tell their parents about the nightmares he's been having. Michael, on the other hand, seemed oblivious to the looks his twin brother was giving. He was chatting happily while enjoying his oatmeal, animated about an upcoming excursion their class was to embark on. "Derek are you okay? You've not said anything about the excursion. Aren't you excited?" Their mum asked, looking intently at Derek. He had seemed "off" all through breakfast. "No, mummy, is not that. I'm sure the excursion will be fun. It's just..." "Just what?" Their dad pressed. Derek was looking at Mike, trying to get his attention to speak up. Mike was focused on his oatmeal. "Derek you know you can tell us anything. "What's going on?" Their mum stopped eating. "Mummy, Mike has been having-" Suddenly a bowl of oatmeal was in Derek's face. Mike was instantly on his feet, lifting Derek up from the collar of his school shirt. The twins were just 13years old and Derek weighed 5kg more than Mike but he seemed to have grown twice Derek's weight seeing as Derek's legs were in the air. Mike threw his brother on the floor and made to get on top of him. His parents grabbed him at this time and succeeded in getting him off Derek. Mike struggled violently for a few seconds then went limp. He had passed out. Dr and Mrs Ejike were bewildered. What just happened?? This was one week ago. ****** "Derek please help me with my shoes." Mrs Ejike said pointing to her shoe rack. "Ok mummy. The red ones?" "Yes. Is your brother set for church?" "He was almost done when I left the room. He just had to put on his shoes." Derek answered. "Alright. Go get him then so we leave. Remember we're picking your father up from the airport right after service so no playing around, okay?" Derek went back to their room to find Mike undressed and back lying down. "Ah. Mike, why have you taken off your clothes?" Derek was confused. Mike was looking at the ceiling, giggling as though unaware of his brother's presence. "MUMMY!!!" Derek shouted as he headed out to call their mum. "Mike. What's going on? Why are you not dressed?" Mrs Ejike looked around to see Mike's clothes on the floor. He was lying down with his singlet and shorts. "I know right?" Mike said as he sat up, backing them. "Who are you talking to, Mike?" Mrs Ejike asked as she moved towards her son. "Mind your business. And leave me alone. I'm not going anywhere." Mike said as he suddenly got off the bed and looked past his mum and twin brother. But that wasn't her son's voice, Mrs Ejike thought as she stepped in front of Mike. It was a bit deeper. Had puberty set it and she hadn't noticed? She shook off the thought. "Mike, we are going to church now. Pick up your clothes and get dressed" "I SAID I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE!" Mike screamed as he delivered a hot slap with the back of his left hand which sent Mrs Ejike falling onto his bed. He jumped on top off his mum and began choking her. "Mike stop it! Get off mum!" Derek shouted as he rushed to the bed and struggled to get Mike off their mum. Suddenly Mike arched forward, his eyes turned upwards, his head was bent backwards towards the left side and then he went limp. He passed out. Four hours later..... "Dad! You're home!" Mike jumped off the bed to hug his dad. His mum and Derek moved back instinctively, trying but failing to hide the fear in their hearts. "What's going on? Why is everybody looking at me funny? Mum what happened to your face?" Mike moved towards Mrs Ejike. "Mike..." Mrs Ejike's voice broke as she looked at her son in confusion. "You hit mum" Derek blurted out. "Derek that's not funny. Mum what happened? And how come dad's back early? When are we leaving for service? I'm leading the special number today, we can't be late." Mike had many questions. He couldn't understand the looks on his parents' and twin's faces but right now, he was preoccupied with getting to church. "Mike....It's 1pm" Dr. Ejike said. He was still reeling from everything that was told him. The bruise on his wife's cheek did not help matters. Mike's shoulders slumped, he walked back to his bed sad and confused. ****** Later that night... "Honey, something is really wrong with Mike. We have to do something." Mrs Ejike said as she applied her night lotion. "I can't believe he slapped you." her husband said. "Hmmm...this might sound weird, but, I don't think it was him." Mrs Ejike was now on the bed. "What do you mean? I hope you're not about to start with your superstitions" Dr. Ejike said as he toweled down. "Dear, you were not there. This was worse than the other day with Derek. And how do you explain him not remembering?" Mrs Ejike asked putting her hair in a net. Dr. Ejike was quiet for a bit. "Well, I called my friend and colleague Dr. Matteson. He's the best pschycologist at our hospital. I've booked an appointment for Tuesday." "Hah! A shrink? When did you call him? Why didn't you discuss with me first? " Mrs Ejike was upset. "Woman, calm down. It's just one appointment in a nice office. He's not going to a mental hospital. Besides, this is the route that will get us solutions." Dr. Ejike said as he turned off the night lamp by his bedside. He slid down into the covers facing away from his wife. Mrs Ejike knew not to argue with her husband when his mind was made up about something. She sighed, turned off her own bedside lamp and also turned the other way to sleep. Both with their own thoughts. ****** Three months later, husband and wife were back at Dr. Matteson's office. "Felix, you're welcome. Mrs Ejike, good afternoon. Please have a seat. " Dr. Matteson said as they came into his office. "How is Mike?" He asked. "Dr. He's gone worse. The medications you gave us have done nothing to improve his condition." Mrs Ejike was exasperated Dr. Matteson turned towards her husband. "Ola, I was certain you'll be able to help us. At first I thought we just had to give the medication time. But it's been three months and these episodes have just continued". Dr. Ejike ran his right hand across his face. "Can you describe exactly what has been happening these past months?" Dr. Matteson opened his notebook. Husband and wife took turns in describing events of the past three months. "....and just yesterday, he threw his phone at me in a fit of rage, passed out and didn't remember the entire episode after he came to." Said Dr. Ejike, pointing to the swollen spot on the left side of his head covered with a plaster. Dr Matteson reclined in his seat, looking over the notes he had jotted down. Sitting back up he looked at the couple before him "I'm afraid Felix, Mrs Ejike, with everything you've just described to me, I have to recommend that you have Mike committed". "No way!" Mrs Ejike was on her feet, her make-up getting messed up by the tears streaming down her face. "Rita dear, please come sit back down. Ola, there's got to be something else we can do. Some other medication we can try." Dr. Ejike pleaded with his friend as he reached for his wife. "Please calm down. Mike is a danger to himself and those around him. At this point I have to make the official recommendation which is the usual procedure. Some of the best mental facilities are here in Colorado, decent and adequately resourced. In fact there's one specially for children just a mile from here. It's a bit pricey but I know you can afford it." Dr. Matteson wrote down the details of the facility and walked around his table to get closer to the couple. He took some tissues from his table and handed them to Mrs Ejike as he continued. "In my 15 years as a psychologist with a few psychiatrists as friends, I've seen over 25 cases similar to this and I can tell you that it's best he's committed now that his condition is still in its early stage. With proper care like the one provided at this facility, he'll be fine and released in about six months. "SIX MONTHS?!" Both husband and wife shouted. ****** "Anita, please call Mrs Ejike for me." Mrs Remi Matthews, CEO of Apex Architecture said to her assistant. "Ma'am, she's not in yet." Replied her assistant. "Again? It's 9:45...." Mrs Matthews said glancing at her watch. "Alright. Get her for me as soon as she comes into to work." She told her assistant 30mins later... "Good morning ma'am." Mrs Ejike greeted as she hurried into her boss' office shakingly. "Good morning Mrs Ejike. Please have a seat." "You've come in late alot in the last three weeks. Plus that, your work performance has deteriorated seriously. You are one of my top designers, so tell me, what's wrong?" Mrs Matthews inquired interlocking her fingers. Mrs Ejike could not meet her eyes. "Ma'am, I'm really sorry. I promise I won't be late again. I'll finish all my pending designs this week. Please don't fire me." Her eyes watered as she said this. Her boss walked around her desk, sat beside her and touched her arm lightly as she said "Rita, no one is firing you. Forget I'm your boss for a moment and tell me what's going on. What's wrong?" Mrs Matthews reached for tissue from her table and handed it to her. "Thank you." Mrs Ejike sniffed. "It's about my son, Mike..." She went on to narrate the events of the past three and half months. "...and at last week's appointment, the Dr. we've been seeing said we have to commit him. My a psych" By now Mrs Ejike was crying. Mrs Matthews gave her moment to gather herself. "Don't cry Rita, all hope is not lost. Uhmmm, are you born again?" "Oh, I go to church every Sunday. I never miss a service." Mrs Ejike answered proudly. "That's beautiful. But are you born again?" Mrs Matthews pressed Rita looked at her a bit confused. Mrs Matthews went ahead to explain what it meant to be born again. Mrs Ejike listened intently. "Wow. I never knew any of this..." Mrs Matthews then proceeded to lead her to Christ and fill her with the Holy Ghost. She thereafter walked back around her desk, sat down and opened her top drawer. "I have a meeting in five minutes. You're already late, so forget about working this morning. I want you to return to your office and read this magazine. Come back to my office in two hours." Mrs Matthews handed her a copy of the Healing School magazine. Back in the CEO'S office... "Wow! Ma'am, did all these miracles really happen?" Mrs Ejike asked still flipping through the magazine. "They sure did. And you can have one too. You see, Rita, you're not dealing with a natural phenomenon here. The Bible says we wrestle not against flesh and blood. And I have great news!! The Man of God, Pastor Chris is having a live Healing Streams service this Friday to Sunday. I want you to register for it. Your boy will be free. May I have your phone?" Mrs Ejike hurriedly handed over her phone. Faith had been stirred in her heart. A particular testimony about a young boy had caught her attention. Mrs Matthews went ahead to download Healing School, Rhapsody of Realities, Pastor Chris Digital Library and Live TV Mobile apps. She thereafter explained the usage of each of the apps and registered her for the Healing Streams service. Picking out four copies of Rhapsody from her desk, she continued "From now till then, I want you to read the articles in the Rhapsody with your boys. Continue reading the magazine and every night, lay your hands on Mike's head when he's asleep. Pray for him, speaking in tongues and declaring the confessions in here." Mrs Ejike took the Rhapsodies nodding. "On the days of the program, make sure your family is watching with you. Be expectant for a miracle. Whether or not his case is called, he'll be made free." Mrs Matthews gave her a kind smile as she finished. Finally, she prayed with Mrs Ejike and closed her for the day. ****** Friday evening.... "Derek, Mike. Come join me in the living room." Mrs Ejike called out. She started the process of casting her phone's screen to the TV so they could participate in the Healing Streams service easily. "Rita, what are you about to do? I came here to watch a football match" Her husband had just glanced at her phone. "But dear, I already told you about this program with Pastor Chris. Please, this might be our last hope. I don't want Mike in an institution." Mrs Ejike pleaded. "Rita dear, I love you but sometimes you act very naive. How has all your going to church helped us? Is it into the hands of all these fake pastors everywhere you want to commit the fate of our son? I'm going to the bedroom to watch my game." He stood up. Mrs Ejike grabbed her husband's hand. "Honey please, join me for today's session only. I promise I won't bother you anymore." She prayed for two miracles today-that her son will be free and that her husband will finally believe in Jesus. Dr. Ejike sighed and sat back down. Two hours into the program, the Man of God started ministering to the sick, calling different cases and rebuking devils. Suddenly, Mike arched forward in his seat. His body lifted from his seat, his legs still on the floor. His head was bent backwards, turned leftward and pressing the couch's head rest. His eye had become glazed, his left hand was flaying in the air, bent backwards by the elbow, all the while he was making unnatural sounds. His family scrambled off their seats and huddled together away from him in utter fear. "...I command you to come out of their bodies. Let them go. OUT NOW IN JESUS NAME!!" The Man of God was saying. Mike's body lifted off completely from the chair, a loud shriek erupted from him and then he fell to the floor. "'re free. Free....Worship Him." The Man of God was saying. About three minutes later Mike stood up from the floor. His family surrounded him. "Mummy, they've all left..." Mike said and held his mother tightly. "At this time, if you've not been born again, I-" Pastor Chris was saying Before he could finish, Dr. Ejike went on his knees in front of the TV. He believed. ------ "The Others" written by Spirited #WritingThisGospel #LGNScribes #LGNrules #HealingStreams #HealingStreamstv ------- πŸ“š This story is a creative fiction inspired by the true life global impact of the ministry of the Man of God, Pastor Chris.πŸ“š ------- Like, Comment, Share.
