SALVATION STORY OF PASTOR ZUNNY ABU. http://bit.ly/2dZqtLQ A little background story will give a better understanding. I was born a Muslim, was raised one and kept at it because of the orientation I was given. It was a family pride to remain one. My dad was working in a federal government research institute and had everything going on well at the time of my childhood and part of my teenage years. He retired before I gained admission into a tertiary institution. While growing up, my dad was the people's man which made our house a meeting point for his friends. Looking back, I can recall two major things associated with him, women and drinking, although a third one, smoking which he stopped and went back to again and again before he eventually stopped it. We had several plantations. I was my father's friend, at that time. However, there was a disconnect at a later time. I was in school, Auchi Polytechnic, from September 1988 to December 1993 where I read accountancy. I am sure just looking at my background and without Christ, you can as well guess what kind of guy I would have been on campus. Well, I was everything you could think of and was in the clubs you could imagine and the ladies and drinking were just a normalcy. I was everywhere at the same time. I had all these going on. My lifestyle affected my studies but the impact was not so obvious because I was a naturally intelligent person so I was still having very good grades. The change in my life began when I met a young lady named Helen Obadan, who wasn't appealing physically, in a friend's birthday party sometime in August or so in 1993. I gave her my room number but wasn't expecting her to visit me. She did something remarkable, which I can now see as very strategic. I was a known person, very popular and she wasn't. She visited me, I think the following day and made it a daily routine. She will come into my room at about 10:30 pm and tells me she was coming from her fellowship or some other meetings and decided to check on me. I had ladies at the snap of my fingers, so most times she comes in she either meet them or sometimes she meets me escorting one out. But she never discouraged me or said anything. She became caring and I was scared because I couldn't fantom or decipher what she was up to. I spoke to my guys then and they said I should give her some time. She presented herself too decent for me to be able to say anything that could have been in my mind at that time. So I just enjoyed the friendship. All these while, she has studied and understood me as an undercover or a spy on an assignment. In September, a pretty and very decent lady (Eromo Gbebaje, who I later knew as the Sisters leader in the campus fellowship) walked up to me, called my name, greeted me and said 'I will like to invite you for a special breakfast meeting this Saturday' she told me she bought the ticket specially for me. True confession, she was very clean and I was feeling on top of the world that such a cute babe could be thinking of me - a setup that I didn't know! That same day another pretty lady brought me an invitation for the same meeting. I think all the decent and clean ladies were the ones in that fellowship. When my friend came for her routine that night I told her of my experience and she acted as though she wasn't aware of anything. She just said 'o, that is nice, I was even thinking of inviting you too'. Meanwhile, she was the brain behind all the plot. What amazed me was the follow up on the invitation, there was a daily reminder. Though the venue wasn't a distance from campus, they provided transportation. Just the same way, clubs like, Club GQ and Aristotle which were the high profile clubs on campus will organize what we use to call 'airport taxis' to take their guest for functions was the same way we were conveyed. There is no need to go into the treatment and quality of service rendered that day, let me leave your imagination to do all of that. It was in one of the best hotels at the time - Hill Top hotel, Auchi in Edo State of Nigeria. I sat on the same table with a very bad boy. While the meeting was going on, we were engaged in the two most visible things there - babes and food. We planned to consume the meal with reckless abandon but what we didn't realize was that they planned for us too. We ate till we gave up. And the ladies were there smiling like hostesses you only find in world class events. The pastor ( who at first, I found it difficult to believe was on the same campus and even at a lower level) a clean young guy with good command of English language, came up and spoke few words. He then asked for those who wanted to give their heart to Christ. My bad guy friend and I started laughing and said under our breath, is it because of the small breakfast they gave? I was amazed how some people stood up and took the decision. One of my course mates and kindred, Rekhia Garuba was among those who did. I laughed her to scorn because her father was a renowned Alhaji, we were all Muslims from a community in Auchi together, a city that was predominately Muslims. Thank God, today she is Pastor Rekhia Abu, she pastors a Christ Embassy and happily married with children. Later in the day, my friend, (Helen - she now pastors a Christ Embassy in the city of Ibadan along with her husband) made her routine visit. She thanked me for coming and reminded me of the invitation by the pastor to attend the fellowship meeting the following day. Two other ladies and a guy came to visit me at different times and reminded me of the meeting. That same night, I had two other engagements, the first was an evening program, we were inducting new officers for the Rotaract Club. I was the sergeant at arms (SAA) and played a major role in the ceremony. Just after that, I had to participate in the coronation ceremony of the kegites club. I was the Provost Marshall, we were ordaining a new chief and council. It is usually a major event with people coming in from campuses all over the country. It was an all night meeting. I was high, as in I was drunk, from the occasion. Everything that happened in those two events was height for me. Looking back today, I can say, it was a sent forth for me out of the world into God's plan. The following day, I got to the fellowship meeting early. I was welcomed and given a seat somewhere in the front to sit down. I will never forget that day in a hurry. The pastor was giving an illustration during the meeting and asked us to opened the book of Leviticus, can you imagine what happened sitting in the front? I was searching for the book of Leviticus with all seriousness in my New Testament bible ( Gideon's free not to be sold). Thank God for the trained and responsive brethren they had, a sister just stylishly and wisely took the bible from me and gave me her own with the book opened. I was humbled. When the altar call was made I found myself in front, I think I was the only one that day. That was the beginning of my journey to the best of life. Lots of people laughed at me, those who gave me time and said the bubble will soon fade, many persecuted me and challenged me openly. Today, twenty-three years after, it is the story of the one that was said to be nothing that has become everything. I say this today, that I am born and raised in Christ Embassy. I have never been to any other church for service, I have had and still have only one father, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. This is home. I have grown through the structure of the cell ministry. I have never had any personal meeting with pastor physically but I meet with him every day. He has never been too busy for me, he has grown me with the word to love and live for Jesus. I have been living that way. I have never tried to be or have anything. I just do the word, it has given me a ministry, a family (my wife... Pastor Monica was born in Christ Embassy, we have two amazing miracle children - brother Chris-Rhema and sister Chris - Mimshach) a career and just everything. Today, not only am I a Pastor in this God birthed ministry, I have grown in responsibility. I am a group pastor... Looking back, I say thank you to everyone that has made this journey a success. Wow, Pastor Zunny Abu had his birthday last week. Join us as we celebrate a man who has blessed the body of Christ with the investment of his personality.
